What’s Fashion Tech & Social Media Combined?

Fashion tech never ceases to amaze me. Nor does social media. Combine these two, and what do you get? The #SelfieHat: a glamorous, glittery pink sombrero that takes selfies of you, or… well, the person who wears it. Yes, you read that right. Pink and glitter aside, there’s a hat that can take selfies of its wearer. And IT IS a real product.

For the connoisseurs, selfie-themed accessories are nothing new. But Acer UK wanted to bring them to a whole new level. Or it might be that they wanted to put their product on the map… Either way, they teamed up with fashion designer Christian Cowan-Sanluis, who brought in his daring aesthetics, and created a selfie-tech accessory that met their goals. Not only was the #SelfieHat an attention grabber at the London Fashion Week, but it also became viral on social media. Hats “on” to Acer for the marketing move product!

Here are the features and functions, along with the benefits of wearing this product, as Acer described them in a press release:

The sombrero style hat spins 360-degrees and has an integrated Acer Iconia A1-840 tablet which enables struggling selfie takers to find their best angle. […] Users can access any apps such as Facebook or Instagram whilst wearing the hat – being on social media never looked so glamorous.

And if you want to see how it feels to wear it, check out the promotional video:

Oh, and if you were wondering what’s with the Lady Gaga photo above, as it turns out, she wore it already. In March. Before it even became the #SelfieHat. Didn’t I tell you Lady Gaga would bring fashion tech to the masses?

If you’re feeling Gaga-esque enough to buy one, bear in mind that there’s only a limited number of #SelfieHats available. If you want to try one out, you’ll have to make an appointment with Acer.

I have to admit – the #AcerSelfieHat is way too fab for me. But what about you – would you wear it?
