Christmas is just around the corner, and everyone’s on a shopping spree.

We’re all looking for the perfect Christmas gifts for friends and family, and – why not – ourselves! This time of year, I can’t resist the temptation of buying a little something for myself as well. Because, let’s face it: Designers bring a little extra creativity and fun to their Winter collections, which makes their garments even more tempting!

Now, as much as I like shopping for presents for family and ahem, myself as well, I’m not a fan of long queues and busy stores. Also, when shopping for clothes, online shopping doesn’t really work for me – I have to try on the items, to make sure they really fit. So I often find myself wondering – wouldn’t it be cool to be able to shop from the comfort of my home, but still enjoy the fun and much needed experience of a fitting room? If you’re having the same thoughts, you’re going to like this: This is exactly the issue that the folks at Von Bismark are trying to solve, by bringing ‘The Mall’ to Xbox One, and pioneering interactive shopping for the TV space.

Stressful shopping experiences? No more – technology to the rescue!

In a recent post, I wrote about how technology is improving online shopping experiences. Making the most of tech advancements, the creative minds at Von Bismark are taking it one step further with interactive shopping in your living room.

“The Mall on Xbox One is the first giant step in our vision to create more beautiful, physically engaging ecommerce experience, delivered through the largest piece of visual real estate you own – the living room TV,” says Von Bismark CEO Eoghan O’Sullivan.

Why Xbox One, you may ask?

“The Xbox One is the perfect device to launch on – it’s incredibly powerful, built for smooth interaction and with the Kinect camera we can bring you as close to physically trying on the clothing as you will ever get when shopping online,” he adds.

It’s true – and fun too! 🙂

Just think about it: How many clothes can you take with you into a physical store fitting room, without wasting time going back and forth (and possibly getting tagged as the ‘mad shopper’)? Only so many. But using the Mall, you can easily browse through ‘stores’ on The Mall, select an outfit, stand in front of your television, and “try it on” in real time – an experience enabled by the Kinect camera’s capabilities.

You can do that with any piece of clothing available in The Mall, any time. The only limits to what you can try on there are your imagination, and, of course, The Mall’s offerings.

Contributing to the seamless interactive shopping experience pioneered by Microsoft and Von Bismark is Powa Technologies, that bring PowaTag to the table. This mobile payment app securely links your credit card and shipping details to the product on screen, allowing for a one-touch purchase. The app is available for free download from the iTunes and Google Play stores.

So there you go: fun, fast, interactive shopping from your own couch. What more can you ask from a shopping experience?

And here’s the most exciting part: The Mall has gone live already in the US with a number of brands, including SoccerPro, Style PB, Grayers and Go2Games – just in time for Christmas! 🙂
